Shamokin – William “Bill” R. Strausser, 87, of 124 E Birch Street, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 1:30 pm with his daughter by his side.
Born in Shamokin on December 18, 1935 to the late William E. and Anna S. (Hepler) Strausser. He graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1953. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 – 1957, he became a Naval Officer on the USS Boston.
On September 10, 1955 at Trinity Evangelical Church in Shamokin he married, Amy E. Taby, who preceded him in death on February 3, 2005. Together they shared 49 years of marriage. They lived in Boston in the beginning of their marriage, moving back to Shamokin in 1957.
Bill was Shamokin’s City Clerk for 37 years, following his retirement, he was Shamokin City Controller for 11 years. He was the past president and treasurer of the Lions Club, Shamokin. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Independence Fire Company, Shamokin.
William is survived by a daughter, Susan “Sue” (Strausser) Frye of Freeland; a granddaughter, Catherine Frye of VA; a grandson, Jonathan Frye of Altoona; a brother, John “Jack” Strausser of Shamokin; a sister-in-law, Deborah Strausser; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife and parents, William was preceded in death by an infant son, William R. Strausser Jr.; a brother, Jim Strausser; Father-in-law and mother-in-law, John S. and Sarah A. (Kline) Taby; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Strausser.
William “Bill” R. Strausser, 87, of 124 E Birch Street, Shamokin – Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Sarah Hershberger, officiating, at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 – 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Compassus, 250 Pierce Street, Suite 217, Kingston, PA, 18704.
