PAXINOS – Sidney E. Gass, 89, of 109 Marley Road, passed away Friday, August 19, 2022, in his home.
Born in Shamokin on September 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Earl and Ida (Clark) Gass. He graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1950. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State College in 1954. As an Air Force ROTC graduate, he went on to flight training in Texas and graduated as a multi-engine pilot in 1956 and was stationed in several air bases in Texas and Oklahoma for 4 years. He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot and is a veteran of the Korean War.
On December 28, 1955 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Shamokin, he married Dorothy Welker, who preceded him in death. He worked as a line bus driver for fifteen years in New York City. He worked at Welkers Furniture Store as a Manager. He was a train driver at Knoebels. He was a 50 plus year member of the Shamokin Lodge 255, F& A.M., Shamokin Council #68, Shamokin Royal Arch #264, Shamokin Commandery #77, and Scottish Rite, NMJ. He was a member of St. Johns UCC.
Sidney is survived by a son, Joseph Gass of Harrisburg and a granddaughter, Michelle Gass of Beaver County. In addition to his wife and parents, Sidney is preceded in death by a sister, Betty Walters and her husband, Clarance; and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Grow and Betty O’Branovich.
Sidney E. Gass, 89, 109 Marley Road, Paxinos – Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 am at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor, Pastor Karyn Fisher, officiating. Viewing will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service.
