Richard Hornberger Obituary

Coal Township – Richard Earl Hornberger, 86, formerly of 317 S. Shamokin Street, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Mountain View Manor.

Born in Shamokin on July 10, 1936 he was the son of the late Rufus and Florence (Mieser) Hornberger. He graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1958.

On May 24, 1955 he married Grace L. Stoop, who survives. He retired from JCPenney as the district distribution manager in 1987. He was a member of the Freemasons and the VA.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by two sons, Richard T. Hornberger and his wife, Cindy of York, and David F. Hornberger and his wife, Kathy of Shippensburg; a daughter, Karen B. Roberts and her husband, Stuart of FL; five grandsons, Richard Hornberger and his wife, Rebecca “Becky”, Daniel Hornberger and his wife, Amber, David Hornberger, Alex Roberts, and Max Roberts; three granddaughters, Danielle Shady and her husband, Jared, Debra Vanasdlen and her husband, Joel, and April Burkhammer and her husband, Jeremy; two great grandsons, Wesley Hornberger, and Will Hornberger; five great granddaughters, Evelyn Hornberger, Emma Hornberger, Tia Vanasdlen, Brianna Vanasdlen, and Kaylee Burkhammer; two brothers-in-law, Richard Stoop and his wife, Barbara and Jesse Stoop and his wife, Cindy; a sister-in-law, Margaret Hornberger; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Hornberger; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Kuhns and her husband, Jack, and Sherry Brinton and her husband, Ron; and a brother-in-law, Frank Stoop.

 

FUNERAL NOTICE

Richard Earl Hornberger, 86, formerly of 317 S. Shamokin Street, Coal Township – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury.
