Norma Moyer Obituary

Coal Township – Norma Irene Moyer, 94, of 1014 West Walnut Street, passed away November 14, 2018 at Mount Carmel Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born in Shamokin on February 7, 1924, she was the daughter of Marlin W. and Florence (Fryberger) Kramer. She graduated from Coal Township High School and was employed as a Teachers Aid for the Shamokin Area School District.

On January 9, 1944, in Morehead City, North Carolina, she married the late William M. Moyer.  Norma was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church where she was a board member and in the choir. She was also a member of Choraliers, Daughters of the American Revolution, Edgewood Swim Club, Moose auxiliary, Northumberland County Council for the Arts & Humanities charter member and served as chairperson for two years, Elysburg Senior Center, and the Women’s Pinochle Club.

Because of the impact of WWII and before he was shipped out to the Pacific Theatre, Norma eloped to Morehead City, NC, with her true love, Bill, and always felt it was the best decision she ever made.

Norma was an amateur artist and most family members have her art work proudly displayed in their homes.  She loved music and dancing, often with her devoted friend, Joh Kurowski.

When she became a grandmother, she was called “Mimi” and was then almost universally known as Mimi to one and all.  She loved the beach and travel, especially to the musical and sporting events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Mimi was their biggest fan.

Mom was loved and will be missed forever by her family and that seems to be a fitting tribute to a gracious lady.

Norma is survived by four daughters, Sharon Strausser and her husband Gary of MD, Barbara Moyer and her husband Jeffrey Fromm Shamokin, Michelle Moyer Bruce and her husband James of DE, and Kim Moyer; two grandsons, Gary Patrick Strausser and his wife Robin of IA, and William Chase and his partner Kari Stroup of Sunbury; five granddaughters, Jill Mayer and her husband Joel of NJ, Kristin Strausser Barnes and her husband David of MD, Reagan Gill and her husband Michael of FL, Quinn Odorizzi and her husband Marcus of MD, and Brennan Bruce of Shamokin; six great-grandsons, Noah Strausser, Connor Barnes, Carson Barnes, Graham Mayer, Kieran Bruce and Elliot Chase; six great-granddaughters, Avery Mayer, Sydney Mayer, Keeley Gill, Scarlett Gill, Madison Odorizzi and Adalyn Erdman; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
