COAL TOWNSHIP — Nellie N. Roughton, 70, of 1315 W. Independence St., passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born in Shamokin Hospital on Dec. 9, 1950, to the late Clyde and Nellie (Stepp) Deitz.

She was a 1969 graduate of Shamokin Area High School. She worked as a seamstress in a local garment factory.

On May 23, 1969 in the Assembly of God Church Shamokin she married Delmar E. Roughton Jr., who preceded her in death on October 31, 2004.

Nellie was a member of the St. Francis Home Association and the Rescue Fire Co. She enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies Baseball team. Nellie was always there for her family and children and loved her husband, Delmar, dearly.

Nellie is survived by her companion of 15 years, Peter Swartz, two daughters, Raelene Sinopoli and husband, Robert of Den Mar Gardens, and Debra Griffiths and significant other, William Reinhardt of Shamokin; a son, Delmar R. Roughton of Coal Township; three grandchildren, Kirsten Sinopoli of Philadelphia, Tre Griffiths of Shamokin, Kourtney Sinopoli of Coal Township; a great-granddaughter, Katherine Griffiths of Shamokin; a sister, Joanne Feese of Coal Township; a brother, William Deitz of Shamokin; a sister-in-law, Emily Sanzotto of Coal Township; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Butch Deitz and Mic Deitz; and two sisters, Darlene Pero and Helen Sledgen.

ROUGHTON — Nellie N. Roughton, 70, of 1315 W. Independence St., Coal Township. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Joan Brown officiating at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W.
