Marie Malick Obituary

Kulpmont – Our beloved mother, Marie J. Malick, 86, a resident of Serenity Gardens and formerly of Beech Street, Shamokin, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 25th, 2021.

Born in Ranshaw on July 2, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Robert and Valeria (Kopitsky) Tumolo. She graduated from St. Edwards School in 1952.

On July 23, 1957 in New Haven, CT, she married Robert A. Malick, who preceded her in death in August 2017.  They celebrated 60 years of marriage.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope (formerly St Joseph’s).

Marie was a devoted mother and worked as a homemaker when her children were young.  She had a talent for being able to stretch a dollar to make the most of every paycheck.  She was a seamstress and made clothing and many one of a kind Halloween outfits.  When she returned to the work force, she was a store clerk at the Big N and Lambs Pharmacy.  Most will remember her from the Country House Restaurant where she was co-owner with her husband, Bob.  She was always there Sunday to greet customers for the “after church” rush.  She prepared many pots of delicious soups and everyone loved her famous rice pudding.  Marie was the organizer of the team and kept the books, trained the waitresses, and made sure everything was ready for catering events.

Marie was happiest when spending time with her family.  She enjoyed preparing holiday dinners and cooking for family celebrations.  Her favorite times were spent vacationing with her family at the beach.  She loved the beach.

The family would like to thank the staff at Serenity Gardens for the loving care she received while a resident there and many thanks to Advantage Home Health & Hospice for their wonderful care and for guiding us through these last difficult months.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Susan Gusick and her husband, Kenneth of Dresher, and Beth Malick of Sunbury; two sons, Terry Malick and his wife, Eileen of VA, and Bobby Malick and his companion, Maggie Silva of Shamokin; six grandchildren, Matthew Gusick, Joshua Gusick, Joseph Weiler, James Weiler, Ryan Malick and Maggie Malick; a brother, David Tumolo and his wife, Shirley of Selinsgrove; two sisters, Darlene Egick and her husband, David of Sunbury, and Linda Clark and her husband, Kenneth of Elysburg; a brother-in-law, Paul Silasavage of OH; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Marie was preceded in death by a son, James Robert Malick (Infant); a sister, Nancy Purcell and her husband, Bill; a brother-in-law, Richard Malick and his wife, Mary; and a sister-in-law, Carol Silasavage.
