Louise Prosser Obituary

Louise Estella Prosser (nee Miller) of Wilmington, DE (formerly of Fairfax, VA), passed away on May 13, 2021, following a brief illness while visiting her daughter in Athens, GA.

Born November 5, 1934, to the late Rev. Paul M. Miller and late Lucy M. Swartz Miller, in Rebersburg, PA, Louise grew up within the farming communities of Central Pennsylvania where her father preached in numerous Evangelical United Brethren churches through which her saving faith in Jesus Christ was cemented. Following her graduation in 1950 from Newport High School at the age of 16, she trained as a nurse at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, PA, earning her RN. She subsequently worked at the State Hospital in Harrisburg and then in private practice. Desiring to advance her education, Louise pursued and received a BSN from Elizabethtown College in 1961, while serving as a resident college nurse. After her marriage to William A. Prosser, Sr., on August 25, 1962, Louise taught nursing at Highsmith Hospital in Fayetteville, NC and then Allentown Hospital (PA) while her husband served in the U.S. Army and then completed his engineering degree. Afterwards, she focused her energies on her growing family and making homes in successive locations across the country while supporting her husband as his career advanced within the Federal Highway Administration. Louise and her family settled in Fairfax, VA, where she resided for 44 years. Louise was a talented homemaker who delighted in sewing, cooking, and crafting for the family that she loved so much. Her interests and skills extended to embroidery, crocheting, knitting, quilting, tatting, upholstering, and other domestic endeavors. In the kitchen, her cake brownies were always a welcome treat, and as her children grew, birthday cakes became more elaborately decorated to match her children’s increasing imaginations. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, and she enjoyed an extensive network of friends, neighbors, relatives, and classmates, often visiting on the phone or sending notes of encouragement. She endeavored to make everyone comfortable and feel welcome wherever she was, touching many lives as she traversed the country throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and her brother, Pastor Glen A. Miller. She is survived by a daughter Cynthia L. Prosser of Athens, GA, and a son William A. Prosser, Jr., his wife, Susan L., and a granddaughter, Letitia L. Prosser, of Wilmington, DE.
