Charles Henry Backes Jr

Coal Township – Charles “Yogi” Henry Backes Jr., 62, of 870 W Mulberry Street, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023 in his home.

Born in Shamokin on July 15, 1960 to Charles and Lois (Shinskie) Backes Sr., who survive.

He graduated from Shamokin Area High School. He enjoyed restoring old trucks, riding motorcycles, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Charles is survived by a daughter, Ashley Nahodil; three grandsons, Max, Nixon, and Braxley; sister, Michelle Thew and her significant other, Charles Schnee of Shamokin; three nephews, Joseph Thew and his significant other, Gina Grassl, Kevin Thew, and Brandon Thew; niece, Chelsea Thew and her significant other, Neil Haddock; two great nieces, Harlow Haddock and Charllee Thew; a great nephew, Mason Thew; his Chihuahua, Lily; and many cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth (Miller) Shinskie, and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Florence (Ebright) Backes.

Charles “Yogi” Henry Backes Jr., 62, of 870 W Mulberry Street, Coal Township B – Memorial Services will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 11:00 am with Reverend Joan Brown, officiating at Farrow-C.J. Lucas Funeral and Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service.
