Mount Carmel – Merry Carol Starr, 94, of 24 W. 6th Street, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026 at Mount Carmel Nursing Home, Mount Carmel.
Born in Ranshaw on Christmas Day, December 25, 1931 to the late Morgan & Rachel (Beadle) Reed. She graduated from Coal Township High School in 1949. She attended college.
On Saturday, February 23, 1952 in Hellertown, she married Raymond Starr, who preceded her in death in 1995. She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Shamokin.
Merry Carol was very active in the community, she was a member of many organizations including; Christian Womens, Girl Scouts Leader, Coal Crackers, Shamokin YMCA, and the Shamokin School District PTA.
In her pastime Merry Carol enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and travelling. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Merry Carol is survived by a son, Reed Starr of Middletown; two daughters, Melanie Wanczak of Chambersburg, and Merrilee Starr of MD; three grandsons, Nick Wanczak and his wife, Elizabeth, Michael Wanczak, and Eric Wanczak and his wife, Lexie; two great grandsons, Everett Wanczak, and Zavier Wanczak; two great granddaughters, Clara Wanczak, and Zandrianna Wanczak; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Merry Carol was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Martha (Yordy) Starr; a son-in-law, Woody Wanczak; a sister, Idella Hill and her husband, Pete; two sisters-in-law, Emily Schuck and her husband, Cyril, and Nancy Starr; and a brother-in-law, George Starr and his wife, Nancy.

Merry Carol Starr, 94, of Mount Carmel – Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 12:00 am at Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, PA, 17872, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Burial will be held following the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township.
