Margaret Catherine Ruth Bitting Burd, affectionately known as “Sis,” 94, a lifelong resident of Coal Township, was called to paradise by our Lord on July 11, 2025, after a six-month battle with cancer. Born April 16, 1931, in Coal Township, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Bitting and Catherine Troutman Bitting. Margaret graduated from Coal Township High School, Class of 1949. On October 30, 1950, she married the late Marlin Harrison Burd of Coal Township. They shared a loving marriage and raised two children: Mary Burd Siddle, deceased, wife of the Reverend Daniel Siddle, and John Burd, who survives. Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Bitting, Herbert “Herk” Bitting, Franklin “Gock” Bitting, and Richard Bitting. She is survived by her sister, Elmira Bitting Barcvage.
