Elysburg – Jean L. Weikel, 91, of 568 West Valley Avenue, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Shamokin on November 24, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Earl and Helen Jennie (Smith) Geist. On October 11, 1958, Jean married the love of her life, Leonard R. Weikel, who preceded her in death.
She was a 1951 graduate of Shamokin Area High school, a member of First United Methodist Church, Shamokin and worked as a seamstress at Schroyer’s Dress Factory.
Jean had a loving heart. She was a bird enthusiast, book lover, avid Bible reader, and an amazing cook and baker. She was known for her delicious rice pudding and fruit salad. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean is survived by two daughters, Sharon Slanina and her husband William of Elysburg and Cathy Moore and her husband James of Maryland; two grandsons, Christopher Slanina and his wife Cortlyn and Tyler Moore and his fiancé Danielle; two granddaughters, Stephanie Lutz and her husband Samuel and Emily Slanina; three great grandsons, Grey Slanina, Grant Slanina and Samuel Lutz; two great granddaughters, Laurel Lutz and Lily Lutz; and her nephew Vaughn Minnich. In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Helen Minnich and her husband Guy.

Jean L. Weikel, 91, of Elysburg – Funeral service will be held Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11:00 am, with Elizabeth Hickok, officiating, at Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Gowen City.
