Shamokin – Betty Larue Boyer, 100, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus her Savior on August 26, 2026. She was blessed to have lived a long and productive life, and her family was blessed to have her in their lives for so long. She passed away peacefully at her residence in the Harold E. Thomas High Rise.
Born on August 14, 1926 at home in Rockefeller Township, she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Edna E. (Conrad) Schleig.
As a young woman, Betty worked at an armory in Philadelphia. During the week, she took the train to
live with aunt. She then would return home to Shamokin on the weekends to be with her family. She later devoted herself to be a homemaker before returning to the workforce as a sewing machine operator for Springfield Sportsware, where she then retired after 20 years. She was a member of the International Lady’s Garment Workers Union. She was also a faithful member of Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, Shamokin.
She enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family. She loved walking to the library to pick out new books to read and for many years she loved camping with her family at Little Mexico Campground.
Betty is survived by three sons, Craig Boyer and his wife, Mary Ann of Elysburg, Richard Boyer and his wife, Carol of Shamokin, and Gary Boyer and his wife, Debbie of Shamokin; a daughter, Kathy Bailey and her husband, Scott of Coal Township; five grandsons, Craig C. Boyer and his wife, Alisha, Scott Bailey, Jr. and his wife, Meredith, Harry Boyer and his wife, Kristy, Thomas “Tommy” Boyer and his wife, Connie, and Nathaniel “Nate” Boyer; five granddaughters, Karen Bassillion, Kim James, Michele White and her husband, Jason, Alicia Yanick, and her husband, Matthew, and Crystal Hoover and her husband, Vince; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Schleig and his wife, Sally, and Joel Schleig and his wife, Sharon; a sister, Bertha Dietrich and her husband, Harold; and a grandson-in-law. Andy Bassillion.
Betty Larue Boyer, 100, of Shamokin– Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, 35 S 2nd St, Shamokin, PA 17872 with Reverend Ferd R. Madara, officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM. Burial will be at Northumberland Memorial Park.
