Shamokin – Arthur Price Martin, 100, of Shamokin passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at his home.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, on September 14, 1924 to the late Ludlow and Dorothy (Price) Martin. He moved to Shamokin when he was a few weeks old. He attended Shamokin Area Schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
On May 24, 1946 at Trinity Episcopal Church, he married, Mary Jane Payne, who preceded him in death on January 16, 2007. He worked for his father-in-law at H C Payne Painting and Paperhanging, running the paint store, and in 1980 he and his nephew, Bill Hoffa, assumed partnership and continued the business until his retirement.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, and was a member of the church council for many years. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Lodge for over 70 years. Art was president of the Odd Fellows Cemetery Association for many years.
Once his niece and nephews joined the Shamokin Area High School Band, he joined the band boosters, drove the band truck, and worked in the food stand for many years even after they all graduated, it was something he loved.
Art is survived by two nieces, Jeanne Hoffa, and her husband Bill, and Laurie Oehler; five nephews, Arthur Payne and his wife, Robin, John Payne and his wife, Teresa, Joseph Payne and his wife, Claire, Roger Payne, and Jeffrey Payne and his wife, Patsy; who he loved like his own; and a Special friend, Sandra Cupp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Martin and his wife, Doris; three brother-in-law’s, Arthur Payne and his wife, Alma, Byron Payne and his wife, Mollie, and Herbert Payne and his wife, Helen; and two nephew’s wives, Bonnie Payne, and Donna Payne. The family would especially like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Alberto Santana, and Salvatore Amico for all their care.
FUNERAL NOTICE
Arthur Price Martin, 100, of Shamokin – Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 am with Pastor Sarah Hershberger, officiating, at Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Burial will be held following the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are being cared for by Farrow-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Service, 240 W Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Lori Ann Campbell, Supervisor.
